About the Organist

Michael holds&nbsp;a Bachelor of Music degree with First Class Honours from the University of Canterbury and a Master of Music degree from Montreal&rsquo;s McGill University. His recent focus has been performances of the complete works of major composers &ndash; J S Bach (in collaboration with Richard Apperley), Fran&ccedil;ois Couperin&rsquo;s Pi&egrave;ces de Clavecin and Sweelinck&rsquo;s complete keyboard works.&nbsp;&nbsp;

About the Organist

A conductor, singer and organist working throughout Auckland, Nicholas is the Director of Music at St Matthew-in-the-City and Organist of King&#39;s College, Otahuhu. Originally from Christchurch, he studied at the University of Auckland under Dr. John Wells and Dr. Karen Grylls CNZM, and is currently studying for an honours degree in orchestral conducting at the University of Adelaide under Dr. Luke Dollman. He is a Conducting Fellow with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and a trustee of the Auckland Town Hall Organ Trust. Nicholas also conducts Harbour Voices choir in Takapuna and GALS, Auckland&#39;s rainbow choir.

About the Conductor

Antun Poljanich was born in Croatia, studying piano and theory at Dubrovnik School for Musical Education and conducting at the University of Ljubljana. Following post-graduate studies in Austria, he won a scholarship which took him to Leningrad for a three-year Master Course in Conducting at the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory. He has since worked with the Leningrad State Symphony Orchestra, the Veneto Philharmonia, the Slovene and Croatian National Orchestras and other prominent orchestras in Russia and Europe.&nbsp;

About the Orchestra

<a href="https://www.ayo.org.nz/" target="_blank">Auckland Youth Orchestra</a>&nbsp;is the premier regional youth orchestra in New Zealand. Founded in 1948, it was the first youth orchestra established in the Southern Hemisphere, designed to bridge the gap between school orchestras and adult professional groups. No other orchestral organisation in New Zealand provides such a comprehensive programme to musicians up to the age of 26. A role of the AYO is to train future musicians to feed into national ensembles and orchestras. More than 2,600 musicians have played in this orchestra which gives up to twelve concerts each year. In 2023, the orchestra will celebrate its 75th anniversary.

About the Organists

Michael Bell&nbsp;is organist, composer and music teacher at King&rsquo;s School in Remuera, Auckland. For fourteen years he was Director of Music at St Matthew- in-the-City. A graduate of the University of Auckland he studied organ and harpsichord with John Wells. Michael has a keen interest in extemporisation, a skill he will demonstrate in this concert.

Soomin Kim&nbsp;studied piano from the age of six in her native Korea. After moving to New Zealand she continued her studies at the University of Auckland. A winner of many prizes, she performs regularly at All Saints Church in Ponsonby and the Pitt St. Methodist church, and often works with the APO. In this concert she will perform music by JS Bach, Alain and Vierne.

About the Organist&nbsp;

Thomas Heywood has clocked up 1.2 million&nbsp;kilometres traveling the globe, thrilling audiences with his unique brand of organ playing. He is a talented and prolific transcriber; recently he transcribed and recorded all nine Beethoven Symphonies.&nbsp;&nbsp;
