About the Organist

Martin Setchell is an international concert organist who believes in promoting entertaining music to a wide audience. Dubbed &quot;New Zealand&rsquo;s most widely travelled concert organist,&quot; he has delighted audiences with his spirited playing, lively personality and entertaining repertoire.&nbsp;Curator of the Christchurch Town Hall organ since 1997, in 2019 Martin had the pleasure of again presiding over its keys following the restoration of the Town Hall and its Rieger organ after the 2010/11 earthquakes.&nbsp;This first &quot;post-lockdown&quot; concert on on the Auckland Town Hall Organ would celebrate the Klais organ&#39;s 10th birthday, and Martin&#39;s third concert on the instrument.

Over the last 20 years, he has given many concerts in New Zealand, Australia, America, Canada, Europe, the UK and the Far East. Highlights include the Spreckels organ in Balboa Park, San Diego; the Mormon Tabernacle Organ in Salt Lake City; the Hill organ in the Sydney Town Hall; Oliwa Cathedral, Poland; the Hong Kong Cultural Centre; the Oriental Arts Centre in Shanghai; the Esplanade Concert Hall, Singapore; Musashino Civic Cultural Hall, Tokyo; Birmingham Town Hall; St Paul&rsquo;s Cathedral, London; St Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh; the historic Gabler organ in Weingarten Abbey; Regensburg Cathedral; and the Bergen International Festival, Norway.

About the Organist

David Burchell is Dunedin City Organist and teaches organ at the University of Otago. He is a graduate of Oxford University working for six years with the renowned New College chapel choir. For eleven years he was Organist and Choir Director at Paul&rsquo;s Cathedral, Dunedin. As Musical Director of City Choir Dunedin he directs performances of major works for choir with a variety of accompanimental groups. David has appeared as organ soloist with the Southern Sinfonia in Poulenc&rsquo;s Organ Concerto, Saint-Sa&euml;ns&rsquo; Organ Symphony, and in the premi&egrave;re of Anthony Ritchie&rsquo;s Organ Overture.
